3 Insights from This Episode

1. Your work is your worship. For people like Ken, who work in secular environments, it can be difficult to talk about and live out faith in the work place. However, the work force is fertile ground for sharing the joy of knowing Jesus Christ. It’s not done by evangelistic preaching, but in our attitude during the work day. In the way we treat others, the way we deal with stress and the strength that comes with knowing that spirit of God is alive in us. When your work is done well, it reflects the glory of God.

2. If you know your why, you’ll find your way. Yes, there’s a collective, overall why: Make disciples and win people for Christ. But there is also an individual calling God’s given each of us. Finding your why is a journey of faith that requires trust. God didn’t promise to tell you all the small details about the how or the what. He gives us the why. Here are Ken’s four steps to help you find your why:

  • Consider. Think about who you are and who God made you to be.
  • Consult. Talk with the people who want to see you live out your calling.
  • Clarify. Determine the issues that are standing in your way.
  • Courage. Make a decision and trust that it’s the right one. We need to be people of courage.

3. Help millennials find their why. There is a generation of young professionals who have no idea what their why is. They’re either afraid of choosing the wrong thing or they’re afraid something better will come along. This gives Pastors have a unique opportunity to connect with millennials.  When Pastors create an opportunities for people to meet together over a meal, connect in a small group or experience one-on-one mentorship, it’s the very first step in having a sense of belonging. More than anything else, millennials want to feel like they belong. Belonging will open the door to belief.

    Carey,

I enjoy your podcasts. I listen weekly on my bike rides. I really related to this podcast because I’m in Workplace Ministry. I would love to have you interview some people that actually minister in the workplace like Corporate Chaplains like those on our team or other workplace chaplains. God is doing unbelievable things in the workplace.
