3 Insights from This Episode

1. Think of your spouse as they were when they were 8-years-old.

Maria shared a pretty profound thought on the podcast. She said that, as in any marriage, there are moments when they don’t see eye-to-eye. When those moments come, Maria thinks about a picture she has of Bob when he was 8-years-old. The image of Bob being a young boy, full of wonder and life, can immediately diffuse the voice that wants to make him the enemy and brings back the focus to who he really is.

2. Ask: Who is God turning me into?

We all have hard stuff happen in our life, but it’s what you do with that’s the better story. Your past is important, but it’s not the only thing God has planned for you. Look at who God is turning you into and find the steps you can take to get there.

3. What if you said “I want one more thing in common with my spouse?”

Life gets so incredibly busy. As a couple in ministry with kids, Bob and Maria are no different. But through seasons of rushed busyness, Bob said talked about how important it is to stop and look up at what your spouse is doing. What are they passionate about? What are they doing for fun? And then, how can you have something in common with them? You’re not trying to become the other person, but keeping these points of connection are key to a healthy marriage. As Bob said: If Maria wants to make pizzas, I’ll grow the tomatoes.
