Get Your Life and Leadership Back. Learn how.

CNLP Bonus 015: The Five Lies Leaders Believe with Barnabas Piper and Todd Adkins on the 5LQ Podcast

Last year, I had a refreshing and honest conversation with Todd Adkins and Barnabas Piper on their podcast, 5LQ, about insecurity, inadequacy and the lies that leaders believe.

Today, I wanted to share this conversation with you as a bonus episode because we’re celebrating the limited return of The High Impact Leader. I know you’ll enjoy this conversation as much as I did.

The High Impact Leader course has helped over 1800 leaders who have already discovered how to get time, energy and priorities working in their favor.

Welcome to Bonus Episode 015 of the podcast.

Become a High Impact Leader

I don’t know where you’re at, but my heart is for every leader to get out of the trap of being busy but not productive, of working long hours but producing less than hoped for.

The #1 question other leaders ask me is this: How do you get it all done?

That question is why I’ve created The High Impact Leader Course. In it, I share transferable principles I use that can help you gain up to 1000 more productive hours back each year.

This 10-session online course will show you highly practical, proven strategies on how to finally get time, energy and priorities working in your favour. It includes 10 videos, an online workbook and 10 specific exercises that will help you create a personalized plan to help you get productive and accomplish the things you know are most important, but rarely have time for.

And you can do this without burning out.

The course, which proceeds at your personal pace whenever you’re ready to tackle a unit, is designed to help you:

Get your most important priorities done early in the week, every week.

Spend more of your time at work doing the things that energize you and less time doing the things that drain you.

Invest more of your time with the people who energize you and less time with the people who drain you.

Discover time to finally exercise, pursue a hobby,  launch a blog, start a podcast or write that book.

Actually be OFF when you have a day off.

Be far more focused on your family when you’re with your family.

Learn how to say no nicely, so you can free up time for the things you’re truly called to do.

In short, it’s designed to help get your life and leadership back, or maybe find them for the very first time.

That’s what the High Impact Leader Course is all about: it’s about getting time, energy and priorities working in your favor. It’s about getting your life and leadership back.

3 Insights from This Episode

1. Don’t give in to Imposter Syndrome.

Most of us are scared of being “found out” that we don’t know nearly as much as others think we do. This feeling breeds insecurity and inadequacy. Ultimately, it leads to believing lie: I must know everything about everything.

The truth is, you don’t. And it’s not your job to. The best leaders don’t just solve problems… they find problems (and develop other people to help solve them). One of the best things you can do is to be honest when you don’t know the answer to a question and say “you know, the person you really need to talk to about this is…”

2. Don’t Let What starts with you end with you.

A lot of leaders believe the lie: I must be prominent and lead from the front.

If your identity is tied up in being up front, it can be really threatening to have someone else interested in sharing the spotlight. A question to ask yourself is: How do I want this to end? If you don’t want the church to end with you, then you have to give someone else the microphone from time to time. Don’t let what starts with you, end with you.

3. Are you willing to hire someone who is better than you?

Another lie leaders believe is: My followers’ success is a threat to me.

There’s a theory out there that if, on a 1 – 10 scale, you’re a 7… you’ll hire 5s and 6s. That’s because most of us want to hire people who are below us. But that’s a flawed way of thinking. It’s easy to hire a smart accountant if you don’t have an interest in accounting, but how about when it’s on our own territory?

We need to strive to be the kinds of leaders who celebrate success and not be threatened because of it. Nobody has ever been fired for raising up a team of rockstars. When we develop people’s talent so well that they thrive, it’s called good leadership.
